C5.2 - Het Ursulinenklooster

 In Onze-Lieve_vrouwe-Waver, België staat het Ursulinenklooster (www.visitwintertuin.be) . Daarin was vanaf 1845 de eerste meisjesschool van Europa gevestigd, voor jongedames van stand. Groot geworden tijdens de Art Nouveau periode, in twee oorlogen fors beschadigd, maar hersteld en nog steeds overeind. En nog altijd een school, zij het nu algemeen voor iedereen.
Wij mochten in de oude delen een ochtend ronddwalen. Met voor mij als hoogtepunt: de pianogalerij. Een gang met aan weerszijden een rij cabinetjes met elk een piano, voor de muzieklessen van de jongedames. Aan het eind een mooi beeld van St. Cecilia, patroonheilige van muzikanten, artiesten en meer.
Om daar te kunnen zijn, foto's te maken, maar ook piano te mogen spelen, was magisch!

In the village "Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe-Waver (Belgium) stands the Ursulinenconvent (www.visitwintertuin.be). Here the first European school for girls (or better: young ladies of higher class) was founded in 1845. It grew in size and fame during the Art Nouveau style period. It was heavily damaged in two world wars, but restored and still in use as a school, be it for all children in general.
We had the privilege of dwelling around the old parts. For me the highlight of that morning was: the piano gallery. A long corridor with cubicles on both sides, each containing a piano, for the music lessons of the young ladies. At the end a statue of St. Cecilia, Patron saint of musicians and artists and such. To be there, to make photographs, but also to be allowed to play a while, it was magic!
